'Bourne' Franchise Latest News and Update: Matt Damon Returns to 'Bourne' Franchise
The next Bourne film release date is set on July 16, 2016. However, this will not be the spinoff sequel that featured Jeremy Renner, who played the role of Bourne's fellow super soldier - Aaron Cross. Instead, Matt Damon will return once again to assume the role of super soldier assassin Jason Bourne.
Aside from Damon, the director of the first two Bourne films, Paul Greengrass, will also return for the upcoming Bourne production. This will be a reunion for the actor and the director.
Some time ago, both Damon and Greengrass announced that they are no longer interested in the Bourne franchise film and this reversal certainly surprised a lot of people.
Reason Behind Damon's Return to Bourne Franchise
According to a Yahoo! post, a number of Damon's films did not do spectacularly well at the box office. This is maybe the reason why Damon has resumed the role of Jason Bourne.
The post also reported that though Damon is willing to work with fellow actor Jeremy Renner and the Bourne sequel director Justin Lin, he still prefers to work with Greengrass. Fortunately, they are, indeed, reuniting in the third trilogy of the Bourne Identity.
Effect on Bourne Spin-off Movie
The Bourne spin-off release date will have to be moved back, in order to make way for Matt Damon - Bourne film. The director of the Bourne spin-off movie would certainly not mind the delay. Lin is actually set to direct the upcoming second season of the HBO television series True Detectives. As for Renner, Universal still wants him to play the role of Aaron Cross. However, it is still unclear when the Bourne spin-off sequel will start its production. Matt Damon's Bourne film, on the other hand, has approximately 10 months left before its release date.
