Apple iWatch vs Samsung Gear S Release Date, Specs, Price, Latest News: Samsung is looking to release a new smart watch sometime in October, the new Gear S to compete with iwatch
As we all know competition between Samsung and Apple never ends. Now this time the competition is among wearable gadgets. Samsung is already a familiar name when it comes to wearable tech. Apple has launched i- watch and Samsung's The Gear, Gear 2, Gear Fit, and Gear Live have all been out on the market for some time now. Now, the South Korean tech company (Samsung) is looking to release a new smart watch the new Gear S sometime in this October.
Let us try to compare smart watches (Gear S and i-Watch) launched by two tech giants (Apple and Samsung)
The Gear S, at first glance, is bigger than most other smart watches with a curved 2-inch AMOLED screen with a 480 x 360 pixel resolution. It's powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, has 4GB of internal storage, and has 3G capabilities. On the other hand, the Apple Watch is very concentrated on design. Apple iwatch has a Digital Crown, a spinning dial on the side of the watch that you spin to zoom in and out of apps or rotate down through apps.
The watch is also powered by Samsung's own mobile operating system, Tizen. While, Apple's Watch OS is used on the Apple Watch. It seems as though Apple has been careful to put functionality at the forefront of the Watch's operating system and users are easily able to scroll through different functions. The home screen, like in iOS, shows all the apps available to the user. On Watch OS, apps are shown in a mosaic, and users can zoom in or out to show more or less apps.
Health is much more an important factor on the Apple Watch than it is on the Gear S. In fact, Apple has released a number of versions of its device, with specifically tailored to health and fitness. The device can track things like heart rate, distance and so on, as you would expect from a smart watch.
Unlike most other smart watches Samsung has released where it's mostly used as a complement to a smartphone, the Gear S can be used independently like a smartphone. It has its own apps, and with 3G capabilities can be used to call and text. Similarly Apple has also designed the iwatch to work with the i-phone 6.
The smartwatch's 2-inch display enables users to type text messages using a QWERTY touch keyboard - but it takes some getting used to since the screen is still very small compared to regular sized smart phones. Whereas, Apple has gone beyond any other smart watch in the market with an extremely customizable design.
To make things easier, the Gear S is also equipped with the S Voice, a voice transcription software where it decodes a users words into text. Even Apple iwatch has a walkie -talkie feature (for use with other Apple watches) and has ability to draw and send pictures.
While the watch is still not out on the market, a few tech sites like TechCrunch have already gotten their hands on a test unit. According to them, the only downside to the Gear S is it's big and clunky profile with an equally wide strap, making the smartwatch look enormous on a person's wrist - almost like having a phone strapped on it.
I feel both Apple iwatch and Samsung 's Gear S will give tough competition to each other.
