'Gotham' News and Update: 'Gotham' Premiere A Success - High Rating and Positive Review
All of the marketing efforts by Fox and WBTV paid off. The ratings are in and reviews are coming in and everything seems to be leading to one conclusion - "Gotham" is another hit series in the making. According to Deadline, "Gotham" has a whopping 8 million viewers during its premiere episode. It also scored 3.2 in the 18-49 adult demographics.
Fans of the Batman franchise are curious about the "old" Gotham City. They want to see everything - its glorious days and its eminent downfall. Of course, there's the young version of Commissioner James Gordon.
"Gotham" season 1 will have 16 episodes and producers said that it will tell the story behind Penguin - his abandonment and rise to power.
The pilot episode of "Gotham" showed the Gotham city the way it really is - from petty crimes on the street to murder. It didn't drag to too much history about the city, it went straight to the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents. As fate would have it, James Gordon and his partner Harvey Bullock were put in charge of investigating the murder of Bruce's parents. At least now we know how their friendship all began, especially when Gordon made a promise that he will get the guy responsible for the murder. Viewers were also introduced to Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal butler of the Wayne family.
Gordon and his partner, Bullock tear Gotham City apart to find the killer. A woman "mob boss" named Fish is a breath of fresh air - finally a woman calling the shots. It is actually a twist in the story. We've always known Batman as a male dominated franchise. Having a female cast as a mob boss is something new and different.
A lot has happened in the pilot episode of "Gotham" - enough to makes fans come back for more.
