The Maze Runner Movie 2014: Great Film for Movie-Watchers, Not Quite for Book Lovers; Review, Plot, Cast,and News on The Maze Runner 2

Based on James Dashner's best-selling book trilogy, the movie The Maze Runner premiered just a few days ago, on September 19. The film adaptation is directed by Wes Ball, and serves as the first installment of The Maze Runner series. The second installment, The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials, is already announced for a release on September 18 next year. It is said that the first Maze Runner movie is doing great so far, with a source pointing out that the movie is expected to top the box office with $33 million.

The story revolves around a 16-year old boy named Thomas, who apparently wakes up one day in a rusty elevator without any memory of himself, "Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape".

For the fans of the original trilogy book, the movie is said to be lacking, not because the movie wasn't great, but because the expectations weren't met. This is not unusual for book lovers, as imaginations go beyond anything that a movie can re-create.

For movie-watchers, the film adaptation seems to be getting positive reviews. One review comments, "It's a well-paced adventure-thriller with an intoxicating sense of mystery and the chutzpah to take huge leaps with its fictional world...The Maze Runner took me somewhere, and it had at least a few thoughtful things to say during the trip. That's all I really need in an action Young Adult adaptation".

The movie cast includes Dylan O'Brien (as Thomas), Aml Ameen (as Alby), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (as Newt), Kaya Scodelario (as Teresa), Ki Hong Lee (as Minho), and Will Poulter (as Gally).

The Maze Runner movie premiered on September 19.
