TV Adaptation of Powers Comic Book Series Airs Soon On Sony's PlayStation Network, First Official Still Photos Of Leads Released, First Official Trailer Set For October Screening At New York Comic-Con
Powers, the upcoming TV adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, is set to premiere in December 2014 on Sony's PlayStation Network. It stars Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward as detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, respectively, in the special homicide division called Powers, where they are tasked with the investigation of cases involving people with superhuman abilities. Copley and Heyward are joined in the Powers cast by Michelle Forbes as Retro Girl, Max Fowler as Krispin Stockley, Adam Godley as Captain Cross, Eddie Izzard as "Big Bad" Wolfe, Noah Taylor as Johnny Royalle, Olesya Rulin as Calista, and Logan Browning as Zora. The first two episodes of the series were written by Charlie Huston and directed by David Slade.
Filming for the sci-fi series began about a month ago, with the first set of photo stills from the shooting being released to the press just last week. The official trailer is scheduled for unveiling On October 11 during the show's panel discussions at the upcoming New York Comic-Con. Writer and executive producer Charlie Huston in the statement which came with the announcement and the photo stills said: "No matter how many guns or super powers you throw into a TV show, no one is going to watch if they don't give a damn about your main characters. Sharlto and Susan are my secret weapons, my super powers; dynamic talents that viewers will definitely give a damn about."
Originally planned for FX, the switch to the PlayStation Network is a welcome advantage according to Huston, who told USA Today, "We're getting the best of both worlds. We're getting a network-budgeted show, and we're getting to dive in as dark and deep as we want to go."
