'Gone Girl' Review: Did it Live Up to the Expectations?
"Gone Girl" is a movie based on a best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn. Ben Affleck stars in the movie playing the role of Nick Dunne while Rosamund Pike plays the role of Amy, Nick's wife. The premise of the novel revolves around the disappearance of Amy. It is one of the most highly anticipated film this year. Fans and critics alike are wondering how the creators of the film will bring the characters of the book and its story to life.
The film is directed by David Fincher, and the critics love the way he executed it. After the advance screening in New York Film Festival, "Gone Girl" is being seen as one of the top contender for an Oscar Award this year. His style of directing combined with stellar performance from Affleck and Pike makes this film a "threat" to other Oscar contenders. The trio is not the only one responsible in making the film shines. The support cast - Kim Dickens, Carrie Coon, Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry all delivered pristine performances.
The story of "Gone Girl" focused on the "dark side" of marriage and the obsession of the public with "media culture." The movie has many twist and turns and of course, secrets which makes it both enticing and thrilling to the viewers. There's nothing predictable about the film. From the outside, Nick and Amy looks like your typical couple. Originally, the couple is from New York who decided to go back to Missouri during recession, then just as they are finally settling, Amy disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary. All evidence leads to murder, with Nick as the prime suspect. That's it! At least for now.
Affleck, who is currently filming "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," said that playing the role Nick Dunne is his boldest and darkest journey. The actor added, "It's maybe the deepest dive into a dark character that is more grounded in realism. The idea was to tell a very real story about a very real guy, a guy who's described in the book as average and normal and ordinary, over and over again, and yet one who we start to suspect may be capable of some really dark stuff."
