Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson joined co-stars Claudia Traisac and Benicio Del Toro promoting their new film Escobar: Paradise Lost at the 2014 Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland over the weekend (September 28th).
"I've - in my experience - loved making smaller movies, independent films. Smaller crews, smaller sets. It feels like a movie..." Josh spoke about going from big movie The Hunger Games to a smaller one.
He added, "When you have this lighter, more nimble crew you feel more free. You feel more able to do everything in a different way. It was a great break from The Hunger Games, for sure. And the filming was really hard and you had a lot of challenges. We were filming in Panama and that was tough in and of itself. But it was incredible. And it was such an incredible crew! It was a Spanish and French co-production, crew members from Cuba, South America, France, everywhere. I was one of three Americans on the entire production."
Plot: Young surfer Nick (Hutcherson) thinks all his dreams have come true when he goes to visit his brother in Colombia. Against an idyllic backdrop of blue lagoons and white beaches he falls madly in love with a beautiful Colombian girl called Maria (Traisac). It all seems perfect until he meets her uncle, one Pablo Escobar (del Toro).
The film is written and directed by Andrea Di Stefano and produced by Dimitri Rassam. It was made on a $25 million budget, which is pretty reasonable for todays movies.
Escobar: Paradise Lost is set to release to theaters on November 5th, 2014.
The 21-year-old Hutcherson is best known for his role as Peta Mellark in the Hunger Games series, co-starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) which has been a huge worldwide success at the box-office. They are set to release their next movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 in November 2014 to theaters worldwide.
The film is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.
