'Independence Day 2 ' Latest News, Updates, Spoilers, Release Date: Alters release date; Showdown with 'The Mummy'

Watch out for movie battle royale in 2016! Big movies from different genres are all lined up for movie fanatics to checkout. Films like "The BFG," "Tarzan," "Angry Birds," "The Mummy," "The Avengers" and "Independence Day 2" are ready to rock n' roll, Collider reported. 

But the latest news is that "Independence Day 2" dodges off against ' Tarzan' and the other movies; instead the sci-fi film will just do a slugfest with 'The Mummy' from Universal Studios. Producers of "Independence Day 2" decided to move their release date from July 1, 2016 to June 24, 2016, according to Slash Film.

Roland Emmerich, who directed the 1996 alien intrusion movie of the same title, will also direct the sequel. Film viewers will get to see two characters from the original movie. Jeff Goldblum who played David Levinson, an MIT graduate computer master who detected the alien invasion; and Bill Pullman who played United States President Thomas Whitmore, an ex-pilot war fighter. Unfortunately, Will Smith turned down the offer to play the second time around Captain Steven Hiller, US Marine Corps ace eagle.

But there is nothing to worry about. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Emmerich revealed that younger warriors will go up against the aliens in the sequel. Youngsters in the 1996 movie will now have to fight and save the world. Patricia Whitmore (Mae Whitman), the daughter of the US President and Dylan Dubrow (Ross Bagley) , the son of Jasmine who is the fiancée of Steven might just be the new youthful conquerors Emmerich is talking about.    

"Independence Day 2" will start-off twenty year after the first invasion. Using 'wormholes' as an entry point, the aliens are back with extreme animosity to conquer earth once again. The earthlings knew they might be back so they got their acts together for the second invasion. Humans got some idea about alien hardware and they may even know how to produce an 'anti-gravity whatchamacallit', but are they really ready for the second coming?

Roland Emmerich together with Dean Devlin produces "Independence Day 2", the sequel under 20^th Century Fox umbrella.

The original "Independence Day" movie earned about 817 million in the box office and won twenty awards. Let us hope that the sequel "Independence Day2" will have the same luck!
