'Godzilla 2' News, Updates: Godzilla Stomps Again in 2018
Good news for Godzilla fans out there! Godzilla will be returning to the big screen in "Godzilla 2," after it roared in the movie theaters and cinemas last summer. The science fiction monster movie grossed a grand total of $524 million worldwide.
"Godzilla 2" is set for release in 2018. It will serve as a sequel to the "Godzilla" series, which features the giant lizard as a terrifying force of nature.
In the last movie, Godzilla, the gigantic lizard acted like a protector of balance as he eliminated his fellow monsters who threatened to destory the modern world.
Director Gareth Edwards confirmed during the company's Comic-Con 2014 appearance that there would be a comeback for the big monster, Screenrant reports. Footages teased the possible return of the "iconic monsters" - Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah. Access the video here.
Collider reveals the monster trio; Rodan is a Pterodactyl, Mothira is a giant moth creature, and Ghidorah is a three-headed dragon figure.
It is likely that the second installment will feature a multi-monster battle, and not just one on one battle, which is what fans are looking for. Gareth Edwards shared his thoughts with Screenrant. "With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically," he said. "I wouldn't want to limit it to one other foe, I think it's more fun to - this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel - but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira," he added.
There is also a Godzilla game available; "Godzilla 2: Wrath of the Monsters." It is a video game created by Nintendo Entertainment system, where the player controls military forces who attempt to prevent Godzilla as well as the other giant monsters from abolishing cities.
The second installment of the upcoming film is set to be released in theaters and cinemas on June 8, 2018.
