The Wind Rises Movie DVD Release Date, Reveals, News, Spoilers and Updates: Movie Wins Alliance of Women Film Journalists Award for Best Animated Feature
This award winning Japanese animated movie was released in Japan on July 20th of 2013 and then got its North American release on May 9th of 2013. The movie was wildly successful both in Japan and North America and carried home The Alliance of Women Film Journalists award for Best Animated Feature, The Annie Awards for Writing in an animated feature and tied with Frozen for Best Animated Film at the Boston Online Film Critics association among a host of other awards. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Toshio Suzuki the movie is an adaptation of Miyazaki's manga of the same name which was loosely based on the 1937 story The Wind Has Risen by Tatsuo Hori.
The movie is a fictionalized story of Jiro Horikoshi who designed two of the most successful Japanese fighter jets of the 30's.The story starts with Jiro Hirokoshi who dreams of being a pilot but is unable due to his poor eyesight. After a dream he decides that he will design planes instead. On his way to college to learn aeronautical engineering he meets the girl who would eventually become his wife after they meet years later. After school he designs his first wildly successful plane and is sent to Germany to get plane designs and exchange ideas with the Nazis. He witnesses a night raid by the Gestapo raid and begins to question the morals of the war and his role in it. He goes back to Japan and his conscience affects his work as he design a plane that flops, this is a blessing and a curse as he meets the love of his life at his summer home. Unfortunately she later dies from tuberculosis but he finds peace within himself.
The movie is beautifully written and well illustrated and is a wonderful addition to any DVD library. Not often are there beautifully written animated love stories that do not involve dogs or Peter Pan and is a story for people of all ages. The movie is set for a DVD release on November 18th 2014.
