The Grand Budapest Hotel Indie Movie Reveals, News and Updates: Movie Big Hit at the Film Festival Circuit
Wes Anderson wrote, directed and produced The Garand Budapest Hotel. Whereas the movie is distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures and produced by American Empirical Pictures, Indian paintbrush and Babelsberg Studio it falls in the independent film category as it did its rounds on the film festival circuit and opened in four theatres in North America on June 15th 2014. During its first weekend the movie grossed 811 million dollars which moved up to 8.5 million dollars in its fourth weekend. The movie was released on DVD on 17th June 2014.
The movie starts with a girls standing at the statue of an author reading a chapter in his book, the author begins narrating the events from his desk in 1985 about a trip he took in 1968. He talks of going to a hotel in the fictional European country of Zubrowka called the Grand Budapest Hotel; here he talks to the Hotel's owner, Zero Mustafa, who tells him why he is unwilling to close the hotel that has now fallen on hard times. We are no taken to 1932 (That is the third flashback within the same movie). In 1932 the hotel was doing so much better, Zero Mustafa is a much younger lobby boy. The hotel's owner is absent and only communicates via his lawyer.
The hotel's concierge Monsieur Gustave offers extra services to the female guests a talent which earns him a near priceless painting when one of them dies much to the disgust of her family. Her son plots to kill him. Through a series of events the painting and the hotel land in the hands of Moustafa. However time and a communist regime ravage the hotel but due the deep bond he has developed with it Moustafa is unwilling to let it go. The movie has received generally positive reviews with critics praising Anderson's casting choices. Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes and Edward Norton are among the names on the extensive cast list. The movie may not still be in theatres but it is a wonderful addition to any DVD library.
