Whiplash Indie Reveals, News, Teasers and Updates: Film Attracted Blum-house Productions, Bold Films and Right of Way Films
A lot of times people concentrate on the feature films when in reality there are a whole lot of independent films that are just as good if not better. Whiplash is one such movie, after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival under the US Dramatic Category the film was picked by Sony Pictures Worldwide for distribution. The movie, written and directed by Damien Chazelle was originally floating around with no studio making any commitments to it at which point Chazelle took out 15 pages and made a short film that attracted Blum-house Productions, Bold Films and Right of Way Films.
The movie was a big success at the Sundance festival and with good reason. Andrew Newman, our protagonist gets accepted to the most prestigious music school in the country and not for violin or piano like everybody usually is but for drumming. Instead of a nurturing and caring teacher that will show him the way like a Zen sensei he gets a drill sergeant who demands perfection from his teachers. Andrew is forced to push himself harder and harder producing some of the most epic and notable drum performances that have come to the silver screen in a long time. A lot of people would be forgiven for mistaking the movie to be the reserve of the music lover when in reality it's a movie for all people who have had to work hard for something.
Unlike most movies where goals are achieved almost by magic and good will to come and a neat ending this movie shows the hard work that Andrew puts in to achieve his goals. Miles Teller and J.K Simmons act opposite each other as student and teacher respectively. Simmons was made famous by the HBO classic Oz and since then has featured in a number of feature films Burn after Reading and Megamind. Other names on the cast list include Melissa Benoist, Austin Stowell and Kavita Patil.
