Serena Williams Loss Reveals and News: Serena's Recent Loss to Simona Halep on Wednesday at the WTA finals
Serena's recent loss 6-0, 6-2 by Simona Halep that took place on Wednesday at the WTA finals has got to be her worst loss since 1998; a blotch on her 18-time Grand Slam career. Serena Williams is a name that resounds at each mention, ranked as the top tennis player in the world. Her winning streak started back in 1998 during her ninth tournament in Oklahoma City. By the age of 16 she had been ranked at number 42 but she fell to number 27. The year 2000 was the last time she lost a match while winning the games. This however, does not include 2007 when she had to retire from a game due to a thigh injury during a match in Zurich.
In her quarterfinals appearance at the 1998 Serena earned $3,600 but by winning this year's U.S's Open she won $3.9 million which equates to averagely $3,400 for each game. Numerically this is one of the worst loses in her career. It came as both a shock to her and her fans. She describes her loss as the worst moment of her life. This loss inevitably jeopardizes her chances of being ranked as the top player this year.
During a press conference held thereafter Serena accepts that she lost, gracefully in a statement that gives her opponent the credit due and promises to train harder in anticipation for their next match. Such control and grace is what makes her a sportsman to reckon with. However, for the fourth ranked Simona Halep, this was as she describes it the best moment of her life. Before this she had never beaten a player ranked in the top three.
