'True Detective Season 2' Update: Release Date Delay Looms, while Taylor Kitsch to Join Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn?
Fans of Nic Pizzolatto's American crime drama series may need to wait a little longer than expected if Mashable's report is accurate, as news of a possible delay has been plaguing the web. "True Detective Season 2," initially slated for release during the northern summer of 2015, may not air according to schedule.
Meanwhile, the highly regarded HBO studio, the producer of the acclaimed series, has "kept mum" about the details of the eagerly anticipated second series of "True Detective." Although the show's makers originally said that the new chapter would start airing next year, as of the date of this article's publication, filming is yet to commence.
"True Detective"'s producers "can only say that filming is to take place this fall," and have so far remained secretive about the beginning of production, characters, crews, and other important details regarding the show. HBO's silence is seen as a sign that the production outfit will not be able to produce "True Detective Season 2" in time for a summer premiere date.
Pizzolatto, the brain behind the high-rating show, is reportedly only half-way through the new season's script (as of July 2014). If this is accurate, then it could mean a prolonged delay of the series' production shcedule, as television scripts are typically maintained in a strict manner to protect the confidentiality of the content from issues like plagiarism.
Aside from the script and production, the post-production process is another step that will surely take time, especially for a show like "True Detective." Viewers will recall that "True Detective Season 1" consisted of a nine-month pre-production and post-production timeline, before it was premiered in January 2014. If the series' team works in accordance with a similar calendar for the new season, we can expect "True Detective Season 2" to be launched around August or September next year. That is, if all things work together smoothly for the production team.
Meanwhile, another question hanging over the show's followers is in regard to the characters. Variety has already reported on HBO's confirmation of Colin Farell and Vince Vaughn as the lead stars of the upcoming "True Detective Season 2." Farrell will portray one of the three main cops in the story under the name Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him." While Vaughn will also be a cop, named Frank Semyon, whose storyline is equally complicated, as Semyon is in "danger of losing his criminal empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."
Unconfirmed rumors have identified Taylor Kitsch as the third main police officer character in "True Detective Season 2." In an interview with Access Hollywood, the Hollywood actor did not reveal any details, but he admitted that he is "mad" for the crime drama series. Kitsch made his opinion clear: "I'm a mad fan for it. I'm excited for Season 2, if I'm in it or not."
