Moana Disney Movie Release Date, News and Updates: First Disney Princess from the Pacific Islands Coming to our Screens in 2016
Disney specializes the art of taking a story turning it inside out and upside down and sending it on its way for us to love. Nowhere was this more apparent than in Tangled and Maleficent which is both traditional fairy tales that they made us fall in love with all over again thank to the new angle and freshness. The history of the concept of the Disney princes is long and interesting starting all the way back in 1939 with Snow White. Although the franchise that has become the Disney Princess was not made official until the early 2000's.
The first Snow White movie was released in 1939 although there have been many variations and home video releases from Disney over the years. The next Princess is Cinderella who got her first movie in 1950, she is without a doubt the most famous of the princesses and according to the franchise she is considered the leader of the princesses. The list would not be complete without Sleeping Beauty, Princess Aurora who got her first Disney movie in 1959. There was a long pause in princess movies and then along came Ariel in the 1989 classic The Little Mermaid. Next is Belle from Beauty and the Beast followed by Pocahontas in 1995 who was the first princess who was not Caucasian. Fa Mulan was the first Asian princess in the 1998 movie Mulan.
The first black princess was Tiana from the movie The Princess and the Frog that was released in 2009; she replaced Tinkerbelle on the list. Next was an all time favorite Rapunzel in the movie Tangled and lastly the red headed, hot tempered Merida from Brave. Coming to the list in 2016 is Princess Moana who shall be the first princess from the Pacific island. Disney announced this new film in late 2014. The story is set about 2000 years ago when Moana sets out tin search of a fabled island. She is joined by her hero a demi-god named Maui in her quest across the open sea. She will be joining Pocahontas, Tiana and Mulan on the diversity train.
