Best Star Wars Games of All Time - Digital Releases of 'Star Wars: X-Wing' and 'Star Wars: TIE Fighter' Confirmed
Best Star Wars Games of All Time - 'Star Wars: X-Wing' and 'Star Wars: TIE Fighter' Will be Having Digital Releases
According to Good Old Games (GOG), "Star Wars: X-Wing" and its sequel, "Star Wars: TIE Fighter," will be released as special edition digital versions. It was also announced on their forum that both games are available for purchase on October 28, 2014. To make the announcement even better, GOG will release the special edition digital versions for only US$10 each.
IGN states that the modern re-releases of the two games have been designed to work on modern computers. But fans of the original versions will appreciate the 1990s feel that has been retained by the developers.
"Star Wars: X-Wing" was the first-ever LucasArts DOS computer game set in the "Star Wars" universe, and was also the lead title in the "X-Wing" combat flight simulator game series. The player's character flies starfighters, including the eponymous X-wing, for the Rebel Alliance as part of a narrative that precedes and parallels the events of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope."
The "Star Wars: TIE Fighter," a 1994 space flight simulator/space-combat computer game, was released as the sequel to "Star Wars: X-Wing." The player is placed in the role of an Imperial starfighter pilot during events that occur between "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi."
Take note that these two games are not the only titles to be re-released, as Inquisitr announced that the overall deal includes the re-release of a confirmed six titles from the back catalog of LucasArts, which was added to the massive Disney empire in 2013.
Even though the announcements made on the GOG forums were published a bit early, fans, both old and new, will be able to play the digital versions of these famous and well-known games from today.
After two decades of waiting for enhanced, updated versions of these LucasArts titles, gamers will finally be able to enjoy them in the 21st century.
