Exclusive Interview: Getting to Know CCM Duo Temple Veil
Temple Veil members, DeRock (Vocals/Violin/Keys) and Brysson (Guitars), met during GMA week in Nashville, TN, while touring in separate bands. Although their personalities couldn't be any more contrasting, the two began writing together, and eventually joined forces, touring the world as members of a successful hard rock group, opening for the likes of Skillet, Red, Newsboys, Third Day, and so on.
Temple Veil has toured relentlessly across 48 US states and Canada, performing over 150 events each year since forming in 2010. Fusing musical backgrounds in classical, rock, pop, and jazz, the band has birthed an entirely new sound in the contemporary worship genre.
Q: Thanks for doing this interview with us. Who is Temple Veil?
Thank you so much for reaching out to us! Temple Veil is a CCM internationally touring duo based in Tampa, FL and comprised of vocalist/violinist, DeRock, and guitarist, Brysson.
Q:: Why did you choose to call yourselves "Temple Veil?" What's the significance of your name?
When Christ died for us, the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, signifying that everyone has access to a direct, personal, and intimate relationship with God the Father. Through this freedom in Christ that we now have, it is our desire that our music and our message would inspire and facilitate a direct, personal, and intimate worship encounter with our Lord and Savior for all who listen or attend a live event.
Q: How would you describe your sound and music?
Temple Veil could be described as a blend of contemporary Christian, pop, and modern worship fused into our own unique styling. We are both classically trained musicians with backgrounds in rock and jazz as well. All of those elements influence our writing and find their way into the Temple Veil sound.
Q: Tell us a little about your journey of how the Lord led you to record your new EP "Give His Love Away."
Recording the "Give His Love Away" EP has been quite a journey for us. During the production process, DeRock experienced the death of four close relatives in a matter of six weeks time, including the loss of both his grandmother and mother. Through it all, we've experienced what it truly means to overcome all adversity through Christ. The message of love and hope throughout the EP has taken on an even deeper and more personal meaning us, and we are so excited to share these songs with the world.
Q: Who did you work with in terms of songwriters and producer for this project?
We recorded the "Give His Love Away" EP at the Brown Owl in Nashville, TN, working with GRAMMY nominated producer Aaron Rice (tobyMac, Mandisa) and CMA nominated producer Brian White (Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean). Both Aaron and Brian were co-writers with us on the respective tracks that they produced, with Brian's son, Blair White, joining us in co-writing the EP's title track, "Give His Love Away."
Q: For our readers who may not have heard your single "You," what's the song about? What does the song mean to you personally?
All of us, no matter where we've come from or what our our backgrounds are, have, at some point in our life, searched for meaning, purpose, and answers. "You" is about how God loves us and meets us right where are in the midst of our brokenness. It's God who gives our lives true meaning and purpose when we allow Him to transform us into a new creation for His glory. "You" is a celebration of the incredible transformation that can only come through Christ.
Q: Are you currently touring in support of this new EP? If you are, where can our readers find out more about your touring details and your music?
We are currently on tour in support of the new EP and have a very extensive US tour planned for 2016, which we plan to extend into Canada as well. We are continuously adding new tour dates on our website, www.templeveil.com. You'll also find our music and videos there, as well as links to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, etc. We'll see you all online and on the road!
