INTERVIEW: Sanchez Tanniehill Shares on His Single "God Did It" and His 2014 Touring Plans
Sanchez Tanniehill is a rising R&B and gospel singer from Birmingham, Alabama. He recently released his newest single, "God Did It", and has been recieving critical acclaim for his work including winning Gospel Artist of the Year 2014 at a recent Alabama Awards night.
We would like to thank Sanchez for taking the time to speak with us.
Hallels: How did it feel to win Gospel Artist of the Year 2014 for People's Choice Awards?
Sanchez: "It felt great! It was such an honor to have been nominated. When we arrived at the award ceremony I was surprised to discover that I had been nominated for five awards. And the moment that they called my name that I had won, I was shocked and said to myself "God Did It" yet again."
Hallels: How would you describe your sound for people that haven't heard of you guys and what artists have influenced your sound?
Sanchez: "My music could be described as joyous gospel praise with a positive message. Marvin Sapp is an awesome man of God and I have always loved his music."
Hallels: What the story behind your single, "God Did It"?
Sanchez: "For many years now I have traveled around and shared the testimony of what God had done for me having had a stroke at 6 weeks of age and subsequently being raised up by God to perform for His glory in a number of venues including American Idol 2005. My new single, "God Did It" is my testimony set to music."
Hallels: Looking at your merch selection, 'God Did It' seems to be a phrase that you are using alot, what made you go with that?
Sanchez: "In addition to the fact that it is the title of my new single, it is an awesome way for others to share with their friends what God has done for them."
Hallels: Are you currently writing music for your next project?
Sanchez: "I'm always writing music for my next project...........praising God with music just flows out of me naturally."
Hallels: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?
Sanchez: "I would choose rhythm & blues artist John Legend because I really enjoy the unique style of his music. I would really like to collaborate with gospel artist Fred Hammond on an upcoming project. I feel that our styles would certainly complement each other. In addition, I have also had the pleasure of speaking with Ruben Studdard in studio and have considered collaborating with him on my upcoming CD."
Hallels: Do you have a current scripture that has been speaking to you? Or a good book that you are reading currently?
Sanchez: "Philippians 1:6 is the scripture that God has put on my heart lately. It says "He who began a good work in you will complete it in the day of Christ Jesus." That thought just blows my mind. You know, that God is not finished with me yet."
Hallels: If you could play professionally for any sports team for one day, who would you pick?
Sanchez: "I have always thought it would be awesome to get out on the basketball court with the Chicago Bulls."
Hallels: What are your touring plans for the rest of 2014?
Sanchez: "We have several things on the schedule for this month like the Lovelady Center, Harvest Church in Calera and the Gadsden Civic Center. If anyone would like more information about my performance schedule or if anyone is interested in having me come out to their church or event, they can contact me on Facebook at Sanchez Tanniehill."
