Veteran Worship Leader Randy Seedorff Chats About His New Album "Elevate"
Veteran singer/songwriter and worship leader Randy Seedorff has just released a new single "From the Inside Out." The song is the follow up release to "Fearless," the lead single from Seedorff's seven-track solo project titled "Elevate." "Elevate" was produced by Larry Gann at Awe Struck Studios.
Seedorff has been writing and performing music for more than 30 years, both as a solo artist and in bands, combining his love of rock and roll with powerful vocals. In 2010, Seedorff formed Soul Purpose, a band that plays throughout the Kansas City region. In 2014, Gann produced Soul Purpose's first album, "Rearview Mirror."
In addition to performing and writing music, Seedorff is pastor of worship and discipleship at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Independence, Missouri. He is a member of ASCAP and the Gospel Music Association.

Q: Thanks Randy for doing this interview with us. Let's start with yourself, how did the Lord first called you to the music ministry?
I have been a musician since I was young, but a life changing event in 1993 really brought about God's call on my life to music ministry. I was the victim of an armed robbery and in the split second before I thought my life was over, God rescued me. From that point on I dedicated my life to music ministry.
Q: You are the founder of Soul Purpose Ministries, what's this ministry about?
The Soul Purpose Ministries mission statement is "To bring the love of God, through the vehicle of music, to as many people as possible." Soul Purpose Ministries sponsors the band Randy Seedorff & Soul Purpose. While the message of the gospel is timeless, we use music as the method to reach people that traditional approaches can't. That means we play at homeless shelters, festivals, outreaches and other events where we can reach those who might not come to a traditional church setting.
Q: You are also a worship pastor. Where are you currently serving and what does your ministry entail?
I currently serve as associate pastor of worship and discipleship at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, in Independence, MO. My responsibilities include creative arts and worship for kids through adults. I lead Sunday morning and evening worship services and continually strive to develop a strong worship culture. As leader of the discipleship ministry, I focus on Christian education, building a strong men's ministry, and coordinating community outreach events.
Q: You have recently released your new album "Elevate." How would you describe your style of music?
The music on Elevate is somewhat of a departure from the high energy, rock style of my last project, Rearview Mirror. Elevate is more worshipful, but still guitar-driven, and features songs with a more introspective theme. The messages are positive and encouraging to the listener. And Larry Gann's quality production and engineering bring out the best in me musically and vocally.
Q: Out of "Elevate," your single "Fearless" was a #1 single! How does that make you feel?
It was great! We were very excited for our ministry and it was humbling to see Fearless at #1.
Q: Congratulations on the release of your new single "From the Inside Out." For our readers who have not heard it yet, what's the song about? And why are you excited about it?
Ezekiel 36:26 says "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." The song is about a transformation of the heart that happens from the inside out. God begins something new on the inside of somebody, and it ends up showing up on the outside. I am excited about From The Inside Out because many in the world are searching for a Savior. The song was written to help them know that God isn't mad at them; but truly loves them. He wants the very best for them, a life of relationship and unconditional love.
Q: Having been in the music ministry for so long, how has your understanding of worship changed or remain the same over these years?
Worship music over the last ten years or so has been evolving at a high velocity. Groups of worship leaders from churches such as Hillsong, Bethel Music, and Wren Collective are collaborating to create wonderful worship experiences. Great musicianship, creative songwriting, as well as visual and sound technology advancements are leading the progression of modern worship. Worship leaders are writing music God has put on their hearts for their congregations that is touching the hearts of God's people around the world.
Q: What words of encouragement do you have for readers who wish to be Christian musicians and/or worship pastors?
There is nothing quite as rewarding and exciting as following the call of God on your life into Christian ministry. My advice to someone wanting to pursue music and worship is to work on your relationship with Christ first and foremost. Let the gifts and graces you have as an artist and a worship leader grow from who you are in Christ. Surround yourself with people you can learn from musically and spiritually. Always make Jesus a part of your journey. Have fun!!:)
