"Downton Abbey" Actress Joanna Froggatt Reveals Season 5 Spoilers, New Characters Announced, and Returning Characters Face Drama and Peril Like Never Before
"Downton Abbey" season four ended in a series of cliffhangers that left fans clamoring for more news of what would become of Anna, Bates, and the rest of the family at Downton. Actress Joanna Froggatt, who plays Anna Bates on the British period drama, discussed some season five spoilers with E! News.
After the sexual assault incident that occurred in the finale of season four, it certainly didn't look like happiness was well within the reach of Anna and Mr. Bates. However, Froggatt had this to say about her character,"Anna and Bates do start season five in a more positive place than they were in season four, but obviously such an event is not something that dissipates or goes away. It's something that people live with for the rest of their lives."
Froggatt, like the rest of us, had questions about the death of Mr. Green. "There is a sort of question mark behind the whole situation of Mr. Green's death," the actress stated. "I can't think of any point that Anna really believes that Mr. Bates has done it. She has this doubt in her mind because, as far as she knows, Bates doesn't know who attacked her, who raped her."
A few more spoilers have been released as well. Richard E. Grant will be portraying a guest of the Crawleys' named Simon Bricker, who is rumored to stir up some drama in regard to Mary and Gillingham's relationship. Grant remarked on the antics of his character, saying, "I don't want to spoil anything, but my character is set to cause some ruckus. He definitely will shake things up. It's going to be fun."
It is also rumored that Lady Mary Crawley will find herself in a definitive romance with Lord Gillingham, after a picture was released of the two in a passionate embrace.
"Downton Abbey" returns to American television screens in January on PBS.
