The Ring 3 Development Begins in Earnest and Paramount Pictures Finally Selects Director
Following a development slump that apparently lasted several years, Paramount pictures have decided to go forward with the next installment of the Ring. This is signified by the selection of a director for the movie, one F. Javier Gutiérrez. From the time that 3D became a thing, Hollywood has been a buzz with theories of a third installment of the ring because of the interesting perspective of Samara crawling out of the screen which would be a major selling point. Audiences would pay lots of money just to have that ghastly experience. Though there have been rumors of a remake or a sequel but it has been in development prison, but not anymore.
It is not clear yet whether Naomi Watts who starred in the first and the second installment of the ring in 2002 and 2005 respectively, will still be in for the third installment. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will be back as the producers, however, they have not given us a clear schedule or even possible release. The first Ring movie was adapted from the Japanese hit Ringu in 1998 and earned a gross of 249 million worldwide. The second movie got $160 million. As for the plot, the theory of a evil videotape that kills the people who watch it within seven days was a hit with audiences during the release and it is safe to assume that the plot method will not change for the third installment though it is still to early to predict anything and the director has not given anything yet.
Gutierrez is known for directing the movie, "The Crow" as well as "Before the fall". It has been almost a decade before the last installment came out and things are very different. For one, no one uses VVCR's anymore and videotapes are ancient tech. maybe the next installment will feature spread of the condemning spirit through a flash drive or something, but hey that's just speculation at this point. The hope is that the 3D factor will add something new.
