Pacific Rim 2 Spoilers: Guillermo Sets Release Date for 2017 while Endorsing Animation Series to Build Plot
The Pacific Rim directed by Guillermo Del Toro is going to hit the big screen on April 4th 2017. It is interesting for a film that premiered in 2013 and was such a big hit to have such a precise release date and so far into the future. It shows, they were prepared and have things in motion calculated to the smallest integer. Apparently, ever since the release, Guillermo has been toying with the idea of the sequel and an animation series to ease the anticipation that will build up to the release of the second movie.
The sequel of the first installment is still three years away but the director has a plan of expanding the plot with a "Tales From Year Zero" which will become the introduction to the movie. This is the one start airing as an animation series for a year before the movie's release. His rationale is that by the time that the second movie is ready for release, people will already have been 0oriented into that world, so that it is easy to delve into character, and theories of plot. He also says that the famous characters will feature in the animation series that is prologue to the second movie. These include Gottlieb, Mako and Newt. We may also get to see Hannibal Chau as part of the cast within the animation installment.
In an interview that he had with Shock till you drop, the director Guillermo Del Toro was asked a few questions about the success of the first movie and plans for the second one. The first movie may not have been the biggest box office success but it did breakeven and makes a profit. The movie grossed 411 million dollars globally and had a budget of about 250 million dollars. The animation series according to Guillermo should orient people more to the story and get things amped for the second installment.
