The Grapes of Wrath Release Date, Spoilers and Review: Spielberg is Back with Great Depression Inspirational Film from DreamWorks
When was the last time we watched a Steven Spielberg movie? Well on December 25th 2015 the award winning director is coming back with The Grapes of Wrath. If you are a big TCM fan then you will know that this is not the first time this movie has been done and how could it be? Considering the movie is based on a novel that is considered a 'landmark ' American novel , right up there with Uncle Tom's cabin. The novel by John Steinbeck was made into a movie released in 1940 starring Henry Fonda and directed by John Ford that won two academy awards. 2015 is a perfect year for a reboot because the novel will be turning 75.
The plot is expected to remain pretty much the same with maybe a few more scenes added. The movie is about the Joads, a family from Oklahoma who lose their farm in the great depression in the 1930's after they lose all their crops in the dust bowl and have to default on their payments. The family then decides to go on the road (the famous Route 66) with a geriatric and a convict among their numbers and become migrant workers. Along the way the family faces adversity, is split up and become stronger for it all in the end. With its fair share of devastating events that will no doubt tear the viewers heart apart, this is definitely going to be an amazing winter movie. Steven Spielberg might have brought us Jaws but he also brought us Shindler's list so he sure knows how to make the actors tug at your heart strings. This production is bound to bring tears. Understandably, the racier parts of the novel were excluded in the 1940's edition and we hope they shall be brought back in the 2015 reboot.
All we really know about the movie is that Spielberg will be directing the movie for DreamWorks. There is sparse information about the cast and the rest of the production crew but we look forward to seeing if Spielberg can possibly add more gold to this award winning book with his Midas touch.
