Gremlins Remake Release Date, Spoilers and Reviews: Remake of the Original Movie Not a Bad Idea after Original's Success
If you're in your mid to late twenties then you remember the Gremlins. These animals are solely responsible for the mass phobia of cute little furry things. Do we have a firm date? Or even a projected release date? Not at all, all we know is that Warner Brother's was looking into a remake. After using only 11 million dollars on the original and amassing 153 million in the box office, a remake would not be a bad idea.
If you have not the privilege of watching the original or do just have never come across it, the plot revolves around Bill, played by Zach Galligan who went on to have a long career in both film and television, appearing in Law and Order, 7th Heaven and Star Trek. Billy is given a cute little furry pet by his father who gets it from Chinatown. The pet is aptly named Mogwai, which means 'Monster' in Cantonese. This little furry 'pleasure' comes with three strict instructions, don't expose it to the sunlight (this will kill it), never get it wet and never feed it after midnight. Of course within minutes of these rules being recited to little Billy a glass of water spills on Mogwai birthing five new Mogwai's. From this point the movie turns into a series of unfortunate events with the little terrors into true reptilian monsters. The rollercoaster involves a swimming pool, snow white, an unfortunate science teacher and an exploding theatre.
This movie involves a lot of dark humor which received a lot of criticism. In response Steven Spielberg who was the executive producer suggested that the Motion Picture Association of America change its rating system, which they did, making the movie iconic in its own unique way. The movie was such a success that Warner Brothers sanctioned a sequel. In 1990 Gremlins 2: The New Batch came out. This was not as well received by fans and actually made losses. There is still no word on the production team but we shall definitely keep you in our circle of trust about news on this movie.
