Rebeccah Miller Speaks About Healing, Worship and Her Upcoming EP "You Make Me Well"

Rebeccah Miller is a 22 year old worship leader who has a heart for worshipping the Lord through singing, playing the guitar, and writing songs. She currently serves in ministry at the First Assembly of God church in her hometown of Lockhart, Texas.  She became involved in worship ministry through her home church at the age of twelve, and has been growing in it ever since. It was evident, even early on, that Rebeccah had a sincere passion for truthful worship.

Rebecca Miller will be releasing her brand new EP "You Make Me Well" on October 14, 2014.  We are so honored to be able to catch up with her for this Hallels' exclusive interview.

Hallels:  Rebeccah, thank you for your time.  For our readers who may not be familiar with who you are, can you briefly tell us a little about yourself. 

I'm a singer and songwriter from Lockhart, Texas. For the last six years I've been blessed to be a worship leader. I love the Lord, I love to worship Him, and I'm so excited to be releasing my debut EP next month!

Hallels:  You are a worship leader and song writer. How did the Lord lead you to such a calling?

For as long as I can remember I've always loved to worship. Even from a young age, singing has been a vital way for me to connect with the Lord. I started singing on the worship team at my home church when I was twelve years old. A few years later, I learned to play the guitar and began writing songs. Over time the Lord has continued to develop a deep love and passion in my heart for worship. I really love to help others connect to God's heart through music. I can't think of any calling more fitting than to spend my life giving praise to the Lord.

Hallels:  You have a new worship EP "You Make Me Well" coming out on October 14.  How would you describe your style of music? 

The style of music on my EP is mainly acoustic driven with some catchy electric guitar and vocal hooks to give it a bright energetic sound. I find that I'm naturally drawn to any music that invokes a response of praise, so I've also tried to incorporate a lot of scripture and life in the song lyrics.

Hallels: I believe you have written all the songs on the EP yourself.  What are some of your joys and challenges in song writing?  

Nearly every experience I've had with writing songs has been different. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes, other times it takes weeks for me to finish a song. Generally though, the lyrics come a little easier for me than the melody and music aspect of it. The songs I write are usually a reflection of what God's been speaking to my heart. I'm reminded of how Abraham built altars in the Bible to commemorate things God had said or done. (Genesis 12:6-7,13:4,13:18) Abraham would stop wherever he was to give thanks and worship the Lord. That's how I think of songwriting, it's taking time to worship, to recognize, and to write things down so I'll always remember what God was doing or teaching me in that current season of life.

Hallels:  You have chosen to deal with this issue of healing on your new EP.  Can you tell us how God's healing has become an important part of your life? 

The song titled "You Make Me Well" is a testimony of the healing God has brought to my life through the last couple of years. I'd been going through a very difficult season when the Lord reminded me of a verse in Proverbs that says, "Hope deferred can make the heart grow sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life." I realized I'd become spiritually sick with confusion, grief, and disappointment. The Lord spoke to my heart and said, "I'm going to make you well." Through those words came the song "You Make Me Well." I'm so thankful for how the Lord's presence has touched and healed my heart. I'm living proof that the Lord "heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds". (Psalm 147:3) He's replaced my confusion with peace, my grief with a deep joy, and my disappointments with hope for the future!

Hallels:  Being a worship leader, what do you think is the most important aspect in leading worship? 

When it comes to leading worship I think it's the heart and sincerity behind it that matter's most. As a worshipper it's important to be "after His own heart." (1 Samuel 13:14) Knowing God's heart requires spending time daily in His word and presence. I never want to be at a point where the only time I spend with the Lord is when I'm leading worship on a stage. I know that if I were to depend on my own abilities, what I do would be ineffective. Without the anointing and leading of the Holy Spirit, even my best efforts fall short. I need Him every moment of every day, on and off stage. My whole life should be a song of worship to God.
