Arthur Movie Release Date, News, Reveals, Review, Plot and Rumors: Idris Elba Rumored to Play Merlin in Upcoming 2016 Movie

If you looked at the name of the movie and guessed that it was a movie about King Arthur, then you are right. The movie is set to be directed by Guy Ritchie also known as the guy who was once married to Madonna. Arthur is yet to go into production but has the date 22^nd July 2016 pegged to it. Apart from Guy Ritchie Warner Bros. has asked Joby Harold's to work on the screenplay and Akiva Goldsman alongside Tory Tunnell to produce. These are the only people who are confirmed on the project as at now but considering the time frame left there is no panic or rush.

King Arthur is a figure from Matter of Britain. Arthur is a mash up folk lore and history and it is still unclear whether he lived or not. Arthur is supposed to have led the British to victory against the Saxons and finally joining the kingdoms of Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and Gaul. Geoffrey's History later included other elements to the story including his father Uther Pendragon, the wizard Merlin, his wife Guinevere, his sword Excalibur and his final internment at Avalon. Late Lancelot and the Holy Grail were added. So what this King actually did and what was later added may not be too clear. He appears in both British and French literature so there must be some seed of truth. He was a favorite topic around the 12^th century with his story coming back to the fore in the 19^th century.

The story has been told and retold in no less than 51 movies between 1904 and 2010 and 12 TV series to date. That is not including animations. Rumor has it that Hollywood's new darling Idris Elba is said to be in talks with Warner Bros to play Merlin or rather a Merlin-like figure. Considering the number of adaptations we doubt there is a new angle to the story but nonetheless we trust Warner Bros. will find a way to make us go to the theatres and watch this tale again.
