St. James Place Movie Release Date, Reveals, Rumors, Reviews and Updates: Tom Hanks to Play Lawyer in Military Case Movie

There are not many movies about the cold war I guess because it was so drawn out and there were so many incidences within it f note. It is one of these incidences that is the premise for this movie. The movie is based on the 1960 U-2 incident and is directed and produced by Steven Spielberg.  I am sure that Spielberg needs no introduction but for the sake of people who are only now just beginning to watch movies he is the highest grossing director of all time and has achieved 231 nominations for  various awards.

In 1957 Eisenhower talked Pakistan into letting the U.S establish a secret intelligence facility there. This base would be where the U-2 spy plane would be taking off from to fly over Russia discretely. The U-2 spy plane flies at an attitude of 70 000 feet, an altitude that Soviet fighter Jets could not reach and it was assumed neither did their missiles. This was incorrect as on May 1^st of 1967 one was shot down over Russia. The United States government initially tried to cover up the planes mission and purpose until the Krushchev and his boys showed them intact parts of the plane, a live pilot and pictures of military bases taken by the plane. The pilot was sentenced to three years imprisonment with seven years hard labor but after much negotiation was released in exchange for Rudolf Abel who was arrested in 1957 by the FBI on charges of conspiracy.

I am certain at the time there was nothing funny about the incident especially to the pilot and his family but in hindsight it is a little hilarious the way they tried to deny it and Russia cam with evidence, there should be a meme. Tom Hanks plays the lawyer who negotiates the release of the pilot, James B. Donovan. Other names on the cast list include Amy Ryan, Eve Hewson and Mark Rylance. The movie is set to be in theatres on October 16^th of 2015.
