FKA Twigs New Target of Racist Comments Online For Dating Robert Pattinson
After it was revealed that Robert Pattinson is dating FKA Twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, she has been the target of "bullying." There had been some really offending comments about her, dating Pattinson. Some of the comments were:
@FKAtwigs you're like a monkey, really i can't believe that rob kissed you.
— hxzscurls (@hxzscurls) September 22, 2014
Is it really impossible to believe that Rob out with this monkey @FKAtwigs — A. (@Angeelicacsp) September 22, 2014
The 26-year-old singer retaliated by saying "I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week. Racism is unacceptable in the real world and it's unacceptable online."
She also posted a picture of herself, honoring her heritage with a caption saying, "Arrow Jamaica Latina bambina," which was unfortunately scrutinized. One comment states, "Let's hope Rob pays for some facial reconstruction."
But there are those who defended her. One supporter said, "Can't believe people actually came on here to be mean and nasty and disrespectful. If you don't like her stay away."
The relationship has not been confirmed by the couple, but the rumor seems to be affecting a lot of loyal Robsten fans. Pictures of the couple taking a stroll together while holding hands or inside a car cozying up to each other, are all the fans need to prove that the two are indeed dating.
FKA Twigs has a Jamaican father and her mother has English and Spanish lineage. She was born in Gloucestershire and is now living in London. She has her own share of discrimination, while she was young, especially being the only mixed race student in her school at the time. She mentioned in an interview that it was hard. FKA Twigs added, "People said horrible things about something I had no control of, which was tough. But that's okay. Life isn't supposed to be easy, is it? I never really saw anything wrong with how I looked, it was more that certain people pointed things out to you about yourself."
Aside from this unfortunate incident, FKA Twigs is on a roll and she seems to be enjoying her new-found romance with Rob. Her career is also on its way to success, she is nominated in three categories at the MOBO Awards - Best Newcomer, Best Female Act together with Jessie J and Rita Ora, and Best Video.
MOBO Awards recognizes music from other genres such as gospel, jazz, soul, Reggae, RnB and hip hop.
