Facebook Latest News, Updates: Social Networking giant apologizes for manipulating news feeds
On Thursday, the CTO of Facebook Mike Schroepfer specially apologized for the inconvenience that to related almost 1.3 billion Facebook users regarding a study that manipulated the news feed to monitor how positive or negative post or status haves an impact on the user behavior. The Facebook Corporation did not notify the users and the whole research was structured secretly. Now the organization thinks that the whole test needed different plans. From now on, the company will go according to well-structured plans with everyone's participation.
Schroepfer mentioned that it is clear for them now that they should have done the researches differently. For example, they could have taken non-experimental path. The research would have to be wider with larger portion of award participants. He also mentioned about some new ways for the upcoming researches.
In future, a group of review panel, which will include lawyers, engineers, company's privacy, and policy teams, researchers, will review the proposed research terms of condition.
The enhanced review process will follow proper guidelines where more importance will be given to maintain the topics that are deeply personal.
Research training will take place for more knowledge regarding the research where everyone will share his or her plans. It will be a six-week training boot camp. Research website will provide the update of the basic research data and survey.
Facebook is looking forward to hire managers to bring more coordination into the research efforts. The manager will also take proper care to monitor the ethics compliance issues.
Facebook cannot roll back the incident but they can take actions to prevent this type of mistakes. The vision of the organization is getting wider day-by-day and they are trying to rectify more by going through well-structured plans. The engineers are now well aware that they cannot relate their experiment with 1.3 billion people or not even on a single user without his or her permission. The transparency will be put on to questions and doubt if things like this happens repeatedly by a popular social network site like Facebook.
