Wet Hot American Summer Netflix Series Release Date And Latest News: Netflix Decides To Make A Ten Episode Series Of The Wet Hot American Summer Movie That Was A Downright Flop In 2001
If you can throw your mind back that far there was a movie by this very same name that was released in 2001. The movie that was directed by David Wain and produced by Howard Bernstein was not the success that USA Films had hoped it would be, as a matter of fact it was a downright flop, making just under 300,000 dollars after 1.8 million dollars was pumped into its making. In true Netflix fashion the company has looked for a truly hopeless and abandoned cause and has sought to make a ten episode series from it.
The movie is set in 1981 and is about the last day at a summer camp where all the counselors and some of the campers are looking for their last chance at romance at the camp, the camp director is trying to keep order in her camp and one counselor is trying to throw the best talent show in the history of the camp. All this happens while a piece of NASA's Skylab hurtles towards them. The series on the other hand shall be a prequel to the movie and shall be shot in a manner similar to Arrested Development. The cast of the series are all now handling different projects and getting the schedules to sync is impossible so every episode will follow one character all within the same time frame. Although the movie was a complete fail it does have its own cult following. Netflix may show the movie at the same time in a bid to get a larger following and maybe push those numbers up.
The cast was star studded which just goes to prove that maybe the writing was not that good. From Amy Poehler to Bradley Cooper , Jeaneane Garofalo , Paul Rudd and David Hyde Pierce. It was rumored that Universal would come on board but there is still no news in that department. A release date is yet to be announced but is expected around mid 2015.
