'The Book Of Life' Review and Cast: Gods Xababla, La Muerta To Play Big Roles
"The Book of Life" is based on a celebration of the Mexicans, which they call the "Day of the Dead" or in Mexican language, "Dia de Los Muertos." This certain day is always celebrated solemnly, starting from Halloween until All Saints Day. It is the only occasion that really gathers the family together and remembering their relatives who's not with them anymore, like most of us are doing when the end of October is approaching.
"The Book of Life" was initially released in Hongkong last Oct. 2.
Jorge Gutierrez directed this film. He explained the context of his creation. It is our nature that every time Halloween approaches. We cannot resist telling the story of our beloved ones who pass away, or do what they usually do, when they are still with us, eat their favorite dish, or simply listen to a song of their choice. Everything that concerns them has a deep meaning. It is the fact that they are still with us because we let them live in our hearts.
The story revolves around just a simple game of the gods, mentioning, La Muerta - the one who rules "The Land of the Remembered" ( voice of Kate del Castillo) and her partner Xibabla - leading "The Land of the Forgotten" (Voiced over by Ron Perlman). The game is about whoever is the choice of Maria - a princess who have two distinct suitors - will be sent in the third world which is the world of the playing god.
La Muerta placed her bet on Manolo (Diego Luna) while Xibabla on Joaqin (Channing Tatum). Manolo won the heart of the young lady, resulting to Manolo's captivation to the Land of the Remebered.
The tour in the majestic world of the dead will be led by Mary Beth voiced by Christina Applegate. Furthermore, we will have a chance of exploring the underworld with a different image and not the usual description of the place (scary, hot, dark, and has a lot of creepy creatures).
Basing on the reviews, this is a perfect movie for the family especially for kids. It received Rated PG as reviewed by the Motion Picture Association of America with "mild action, rude humor, some thematic elements and brief scary image," released by 20th Century Fox and the total time of the film is just 95 minutes.
For the rest of the cast, the candle maker will be voiced over by Ice Cube who is the bookkeeper of "The Book of Life", Dan Navarro as Chakal leading a gang of bandits.
