"Stars Wars Rebels" Animated Series Aims to Attract New-Gen Followers - Action Scenes Based on "Indiana Jones"
It's still more than a year to go before the much anticipated seventh installment of an iconic sci-fi film will be shown in theaters. But as the fans clamor for more "Stars Wars" franchise, Disney released an animated series based on the well-loved movie franchise.
Tribune Live said in its report that the new animated series, "Star Wars Rebels," was launched recently in Disney channel along with the one-hour movie "Star Wars: A New Hope." The new series of the epic soap opera is reportedly set between the times of films "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope."
"A motley crew of freedom fighters aboard the starship Ghost" wages a small war against the Empire. The command was led by a survivor of Emperor's Jedi purge, Kanan, voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. Kanan led the team compose of a con artist, Ezra, a lover of explosions, Sabine, the muscle, Zeb and a grumpy droid, Chopper.
A new character named Hera, voiced by Vanessa Marshall, is said to be the latest addition to the series. Because the animated series is set between the two feature films, "Star Wars" classic characters like c-3PO and R3-D2 are rumored to appear in the series future episode.
A young fan of the original "Star Wars" films said in a recent speech that "Rebels" is an animated series that targets kids. According to The Guardian, Dave Filoni, a showrunner in the latest series, announced that the franchise wanted to reach out to the younger generation who was not born yet during Star Wars' prime era.
To be able to catch the kid's attention, Filoni said that "Star Wars Rebels" has a diverse set of new characters to be introduced. "It has to have a broad reach of character: you can't rely on Luke and Leia," he said referring to the epic sci-fi movie's classic characters.
"Star Wars Rebels" will also try to have some humor that lacks in the franchise's original story. As "Star Wars" is known for its action scenes, the latest animated series will also have some fight scenes but those will not be solely based on the original films.
Filoni even confirmed that some action scenes in the "Star Wars Rebels" will be based on another but more current movie. "A lot of our action is actually inspired by Indiana Jones," he said.
Screen Rant on the other hand commended the diverse group of characters featured in Star Wars rebels. "Judging from other past clips, each member of the group will have their own unique talents and specialties." As the group of individuals who are equipped with their own skills, motley crew can take down the Empire.
