The Rocket Summer Reveals Details to His New Album 'Zoetic"
The Rocket Summer is the solo-project of Bryce Avary who is based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Avary is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer. He writes and produces every song on his records, and plays every instrument on them. The Rocket Summer has announced that his next album will be titled Zoetic, and is due to release February 26, 2016.
"The word Zoetic is defined as "of or relating to life. Living, vital, alive"... which to me is how this album sounds and feels," The Rocket Summer mastermind Bryce Avary shares about the title choice. "So much has gone into this record and I can't wait for the 26th."
In an interview with altpress, The Rocket Summer says the new album has a brand new sound: "Oh, wow. I'd probably have to sit down and listen to the old records. In a way, I think it's probably really different from the older records because with this album, I feel like it's the birth of a new Rocket Summer. I allowed myself to follow the songs that were coming out of me-not that I hadn't done that in the past, because I had-but I purposefully wanted to go into new territories and see where the songs led me. So sonically, it's a really different record. The few people who have heard it, I think, have been kinda taken aback by how different they think it sounds, but it's still Rocket Summer. I certainly don't listen to my records. [Laughs.] but there was a time recently where I had this moment of like, "Whoa, I really did make a different sounding recording," because it sounds nothing like my last one or the one before it. But I'm proud it of it. It sounds like freedom."
Preceding the album is the release of The Rocket Summer's new video "Same Air." The music video debuted via Idolater.com. Bryce Avary told the site "I wanted to make a video that attempted to visually match the color in the song, 'Same Air'. The directors had this trippy idea to tell a story of me falling from space through a beautiful, convoluted earth. I loved the idea but didn't want to be the only one in the video since at the heart of it, the song is about unity and how we're all connected. So I asked my friend, actress Hannah Simone to see if she'd like to be in the video as well, telling a story of two people from opposite sides of the planet on this similar esoteric journey."
