Johnson Edition on the Importance of Reaching All Generations with their "Testimony"
Johnson Edition has just released their brand new single "Love Always Finds A Way." The song reminds us of the words of the Apostle Paul who tells us that we must have faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love. Taken from the band's new album "Testimony," the song is just a glimpse of a collection full of Scripturally-based entries.
Johnson Edition is a sibling group from upstate South Carolina who grew up in the small town of Salem, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sisters, Breayn, and Destiny, along with their brothers, Jathyn, and Westyn, have been singing for as long as they can remember. In June 2000 they took the stage as a young group to begin their journey together.
With a sound that blends progressive country and southern gospel this group strikes a chord with people of different ages, walks of life, and musical interests. With heart-felt performances, their goal is to reach within, and beyond the church walls to people who are hurting, and struggling to find their place in this world. Johnson Edition wants to convey the message that the love and grace of Jesus Christ truly reaches to everyone.
Q: Thank you so much for doing this interview with us. Let's start with yourselves: who is Johnson Edition?
Johnson Edition is Breayn, Jathyn, Westyn, and Destiny Johnson from upstate South Carolina. We're a group of siblings who feel a calling on our lives to share our passion for Christ through music. The desire to reach out to people sharing love, and hope through the gospel is the driving force in what we do.
Q: How long have you been singing together? What are some of the highlights so far in your musical journey?
We sang with our parents when we were very young. Then we started our journey together as a young group in June 2000.Highlights: Singing at Dollywood, Working with Danny Crawford & Jonathan Martin on recording projects, meeting so many great people along the way, and seeing lives touched through our music.
Q: You have recently released your third album "Testimony." Why did you call it "Testimony"?
The songs have a theme of Christ being the center of our life, and we identify with their message as what we want our testimony to be.
Q: Did you approach the making of this new record any differently from the other two?
We just try to make our music relatable to as many people as possible. With each new project, we seek to record songs that have the potential to reach all generations.
Q: On this album you got to work with the Martins' Jonathan Martin and Danny Crawford as producers. What was it like working with these two men?
It was a pleasure. We have worked with Danny on all three of our JE projects, and even before that. Jonathan has worked on two now. It's great to work with two such talented and kind individuals. They know how to make every moment enjoyable, and they try to understand the artist, and what they want to achieve. We love being friends with, and working with both of them!
Q: Talk to us about your single "You Made My Day." Why are you excited about this song?
Each day that we live is made, and given to us by God. This song excites us, because it puts into words the praise we should give Him every day for that gift.
Q: One of the songs I really like is "Love You Through the Scars." What was it about this song that made you want to record it?
We can all identify. We all face circumstances that leave us wounded, and scarred. Jesus left this earth bearing the scars of the world. He hung on a cross so that He could heal our wounds, and love us through our scars.
Q: What are some of the joys in the making of this album?
Everything! Working with producers, musicians, and engineers we respect, and have so much fun creating a project that we're proud of. As well as being in the studio together doing what we love to do as a family. Most of all, the presence of God that we have felt through these songs.
Q: What is your hope for this record? How do you wish for this record to impact the lives of your listeners?
We hope believers will be encouraged by recognizing part of their own testimony in the messages of these songs. Also, that non-believers will accept God's love for them, and make the choice to follow Him.
