Stalker TV Review: Lot of Brainstorming and Preparation to Smoothen the Bumps
CBS has been promoting the newest police story that involves detectives and stalkers. The show is much to be waited for as it is executive produced by the man behind "The Vampire Diaries," "The Following" and "Scream,"- Kevin Williamson.
It is much fascinating that CBS has done a lot of brainstorming and preparation to smoothen the bumps however it still missed some critical points. The monologue has been eye catching and at the same time creepy, but brilliant viewers won't take the beginning message for granted.
"Over 6 million people are stalked each year in the United States," - this was the lines in the opening that seems the show is scaring people with statistics.
The first scene could make anyone feel uneasy. It is not fun seeing a masked man pouring petrol to young women and setting them ablaze. This is just the beginning to get a gist of how the newest CBS show is going to run.
Stalker is a real torture for every viewer who will watch it. It has succeeded in making the viewers uncomfortable with its despicable criminals and violent images. The partnership of CBS and Williamson created gnarly visuals for viewers that will make a woman imagine that being stalked means danger.
Stalker revolves around Lieutenant Beth Davis (Maggie Q) of Nikita and Detective Jack Larsen (Dylan McDermott).
The first episode reveals how Beth lives and manages her life as a victim of stalking. She goes home and checks that every window and door is closed. She even has a door with a small space to see an intruder coming.
Stalker is not really focused on the life of the two detectives. Actually, the show is trying to just surface the subjects, violence and stalkers. In reality, there could be myriads of ways on how you can spot a stalker.
You can check the motives or listen to what the victims are saying. But these are all too revealing for the series. If this is so predictable, why not just investigate on men who stalk? Throw the attention to the men who can do such brutal death to woman from mashing a bottle to burning a woman alive.
There is a line when Larsen asks Davis, "Why do you wear sexy things if you don't want men to notice?" When she answered that she dresses for herself, he shrug-off that answer and said "Nice try."
This could also be Stalker's way to show showcase Larsen's evil and flirtatious traits. There is also another scene where Davis is shown brushing her teeth, slowly undressing, etc. in her abode. The theme of the story lies on brutal stalking, but it could not be denied that the parts of Davis were just made to brag Maggie Q.
Overall, Stalker lacks the potential to steer the emotions of the viewers. It obviously focused on wrong priorities. The story should have shown the real reason behind stalking after all it is what the series is all about. It depicts sexy, flashy scenes and in overall it's just empty leaving behind the cause and solution for the crime.
